Metallic impuritieswithin carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are responsible for their toxicological effects and, therefore, it is crucial to know the amount of mobile, bioavailable metallic impurities as opposed to the total amount of impurities. In their Full Paper on page 1806 ff., M. Pumera et al. propose the use of electrochemical methods to determine the amount of bioavailable molybdenum impurities present in commercial samples of CNTs. The cover picture shows the electrochemical dissolution of Mo impurities from CNTs against a background of plum blossom, the Japanese symbol of purity.

Novel organic–inorganic hybrid MoOx/polyaniline nanocomposites have been prepared by an oxidative polymerization strategy from a Mo3O10(C6H8N)2⋅2 H2O nanowire precursor with sub-nanometer periodic structures. By simply modulating the pH values of the system, the nanocomposites with controllable morphologies, including nanotubes, nanowires and rambutan-like nanoparticles, are successfully obtained. In these particles the conductive polyaniline improves the conductivity of the hybrids. For more details see the Full Paper by Y. Tang et al. on page 1465 ff.
